All of us on the search committee are excited to welcome our four
presidential finalists to UMA during the week of March 28-31. They come
from as far away as New Mexico and as nearby as Presque Isle. The four have
a wide variety of backgrounds and experience and we are confident any one
of them would be a fine leader for this university.
Next week will be an opportunity for us to get to know each of the
candidates and for them to better understand the unique opportunities at
UMA. Each of them will be meeting separately with different constituencies
on both the Augusta and Bangor campuses over a two day period. We have
scheduled times with students, faculty, staff, administration and the UMA
Board of Visitors. I want to highlight that each day Tuesday through Friday
at noon there will be an* open forum *with one of the candidates at Jewett
Hall on the Augusta campus to which members of both the UMA and larger
communities are invited to attend, as well. If people are unable to make
these in person, please check this website for an opportunity to
participate and even ask questions remotely. We also encourage people to
forward their comments about the candidates to us through the feedback
links found under each candidate’s name below.
Our search committee will reconvene on April 5 before meeting with the
Chancellor to give him our final input on each of the candidates. The final
decision will then be his.
The UMA Presidential Search Committee met Tuesday afternoon to discuss the dozens of applications received from candidates from all over the country. At the end of the session, the Committee selected 12 semi-finalist candidates who will be invited to virtual interviews with the full committee on March 9 and 10. The Committee will then choose 3 or 4 finalist candidates who will be invited to UMA for campus visits the week of March 27. During those visits, all sectors of the UMA community as well as the larger system and state stakeholders will have an opportunity to meet and have discussions with the finalists and provide the Committee with their input. The Committee will then provide Chancellor Dannel Malloy with an assessment of those candidates to which he will review and select the final candidate.
“The Search Committee is working incredibly well together”, said Committee Chair and System Trustee Roger Katz. “We now have an accomplished array of semi-finalist candidates and we are all excited about next week’s interviews. We are all confident that the process will end with an outstanding new leader for this great university.”

Dear UMA Community members,
Recently, the Presidential Search Committee (PSC) hosted a number of individual sessions for faculty, staff, students, and community members so each group could provide input into the qualities, qualifications, and priorities of the next UMA president.
If you attended one (or more) of the sessions, “Thank you!”
If you were unable to attend, or if you just want to provide additional comments, you can do so now with the Feedback/Survey form on UMA’s Presidential Search page.
In addition, your submission of a Nomination or Referral is also welcome by sending an email to UMAPresident@zrgpartners.com. Please include the individual’s name, title, organization, and affiliation (if any) with UMA.
I look forward to your thoughts and feedback as we move forward with this important step in the search process.
Best,
