The History of the UMA Student Tech Hub
In late June 2020, UMA leadership commissioned a specialized team to develop a centralized resource to support students under the guidance of the Academic Services Unit (ASU). Originally created to facilitate the rapid transition to the Brightspace learning management system and address the unique challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Tech Hub has since become a permanent, essential resource for the UMA community.
Today, the Hub operates under a “Learning Commons” model. While working alongside many other UMA departments, such as the IT Helpdesk, the Tech Hub specializes in empowering students to master the digital tools required for modern learning. From navigating MaineStreet and Brightspace to troubleshooting Zoom, Kaltura, and browser-related challenges, the Tech Hub provides the tutorials, documentation, and live support students need to stay connected. Whether online or at physical locations on the Augusta and Bangor campuses, the Student Tech Hub remains dedicated to removing technological barriers to education.
