Bio

Jessica developed a love for literature in high school, sitting barefoot in the log cabin that housed her Quaker school in North Carolina. This led to earning a degree in English with a minor in Education. As she began teaching high school English, Jessica quickly wanted to go back to school herself. She enrolled in the Breadloaf School of English at Middlebury College and spent multiple summers enjoying the company of amazing writers, professors, and fellow English teachers and enthusiasts.

Jessica has taught high school and college English since 1999. She’s served UMA students since 2011. Jessica also enjoys the opportunity to teach graduate students in the College of Education at the University of Maine, supporting teachers as they learn to incorporate instructional technology in their teaching practices.

Finally, Jessica serves the UMA community as a learning experience designer, collaborating with faculty and staff to create engaging activities and compelling content for UMA students. In this role, she partners with various UMA teams to identify aspects of each learner’s experience that can be enhanced for a more robust, supportive, and successful journey.

Outside of work, Jessica lives on a simple homestead with her husband and two sons. They nourish their plot of land to grow most of their yearly food, and they are frequently fortunate to be able to share that bounty with others.
