Bio

A UMS tutor and adjunct since 2004, Michelle Lisi is a writing center administrator and a poet with an MFA in Fiction Writing from Columbia University and a BA in English and Communication from the University of Delaware. She teaches College Writing, Introduction to Literature, and Professional Writing, and has developed courses on critical thinking, tutor mentoring, new media, and graphic novels. She is a PEA (Professional Employee Association) Senator and co-chair of the WICCD (Women Invigorating Curriculum and Cultivating Diversity) Committee. She works with Maine Literacy Volunteers and the Maine Humanities Council to facilitate antiracism training, and she volunteers for New Mainer community organizations like the Portland JCA (Jewish Community Alliance) and HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society). In her spare time, Michelle is a teacher and board member of the Beth Israel Congregation in Bath, and she co-leads the Coastal Area Women’s Writing Group. She lives in an old farmhouse in Brunswick with her husband, son, cats, and lizard.
