As the landscape of higher education shifts beneath our feet, we find ourselves tackling questions about how to adapt to a new world of AI and how to authentically assess learning in its presence.
UMA’s Joint Academic Assessment Committee (JAAC) and the UMA Artificial Intelligence Committee (AIC) will co-host three days of one-hour sessions.
Please register for all or part of this three-day series of sessions to explore topics related to academic assessment in the age of generative AI. The RSVP page will display the Zoom link for all three days once the summit is underway.
The summit will be in person on the UMA Campus in Augusta, with a video feed to Bangor and online via Zoom.
All sessions will take place at the Farber Forum in Jewett Hall, 46 University Drive in Augusta, and on the Bangor campus over Zoom in Eastport Hall, Room 136.
Light refreshments will be offered in Farber Forum and in Eastport Hall each day.
Monday, February 9th
The series will kick off with opening remarks by UMA Office of Institutional Research & Assessment (OIRA) Director Dr. David Prestby and UMA Provost Dr. Joe Szakas.
The session will begin with a short pre-recorded interview with guest speaker Christopher Ostro. He is an AI-focused Assistant Teaching Professor and Course Designer at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Following the video, panelists from UMA will participate in a live discussion, moderated by Chad Bouchard, UMA’s AI and Academic Initiatives Coordinator.

Tuesday, February 10th
This session will begin with a short pre-recorded interview with guest speaker Maha Bali. She is Professor of Practice at the Center for Learning and Teaching at the American University in Cairo. Following the video, panelists from UMA will participate in a live discussion.

Wednesday, February 11th
On the third and final day, join us for an Assessment Summit Campfire, an informal, open discussion where faculty and staff can debrief and wrap up our three-day event by talking about assessments in the age of AI. Bring your questions, wins, and worries to this conversation.
