Purpose

The goal of the Artificial Intelligence Committee (AIC) is to explore and recommend changes needed to appropriately incorporate AI in UMA’s academic curriculum, research efforts, technological infrastructure, resources, mission, and external collaborations, while also conforming to ethical standards and principles. Committee efforts will contribute significantly to positioning our university as a leader in leveraging AI for academic excellence.

The University of Maine at Augusta’s Artificial Intelligence Committee (AIC), established in April 2024, was charged with exploring and recommending changes necessary to integrate AI into UMA’s academic curriculum, research efforts, technological infrastructure, resources, mission, and external collaborations. This Initial Assessment and Report presents findings, challenges, and recommendations based on the committee’s initial evaluation of UMA’s AI capabilities, needs, and opportunities.
