I have been in the social work, counseling, and education fields for over 32 years.  I am a native Mainer from Aroostook County.  I received my Bachelor’s of Science degree in 1983 from the University of Maine at Fort Kent and my Master’s of Social Work in 1991 from the University of Dundee, Dundee, Scotland.  I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and a Certified Clinical Supervisor.

I have had a wide variety of exciting work experiences having lived and practiced in Italy, Scotland & the United States.  I’ve worked in a variety of settings; school based, community based, residential, and hospital based services.  I have  worked with adults, children, adolescents, couples & families.  I have worked for nonprofit, state, and federal social services agencies and have been active in building continuums of services for people of all ages and needs.  I am a former member of the Board of Alcohol & Drug Counselors and served as both Vice Chair and Complaint Officer during his tenure.

I am the former Director of the State of Maine Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services and served as the Single State Authority for Substance Abuse Services for 7 years.  I served concurrently as the Single State Authority for Mental Health Services for 3 years

I joined the University of Maine at Augusta faculty in the fall of September 2015 and I’m very excited about the opportunity to work with people eager to join the behavioral health work force.
