Nancy Mickles-Foster

Professor Foster is an educator, administrator, and researcher with an extensive background in periodontology and clinical practice. She currently teaches at UMA across both the Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting programs, delivering instruction in didactic, online, laboratory, and clinical settings.

An active leader in the field, Nancy serves as a clinical board examiner for the American Board of Dental Examiners (ADEX). Her previous leadership roles include serving as Treasurer, Secretary, and Complaint Officer for the Maine Board of Dental Practice. As a researcher, her work has been featured in premier publications such as the Journal of Periodontology, the Journal of Dental Research, and the Journal of Dental Hygiene.

Earlier in her career, Nancy specialized in non-surgical periodontal therapy at the Forsyth Institute and served as a clinical research co-investigator at Boston University’s Goldman School of Dental Medicine. Before relocating to Maine, she spent several years collaborating with industry and governmental entities on diverse research initiatives.
