Dr. Vickie A. Ireland, PhD, RN, CNE, CHSE, CEN, AHN-BC is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA). A dedicated educator and clinician, she joined the UMA faculty in 2021, bringing nearly three decades of diverse clinical expertise from high-acuity specialties, including emergency, trauma, intensive care, and pediatrics.

Dr. Ireland’s research agenda is committed to enhancing the nursing profession through a focus on Emotional Intelligence (EI), holistic nursing and retention, and the creation of Healthy Work Environments. She is a recognized national scholar, with publications on integrating EI strategies into undergraduate curricula, and on evaluating minimum exam averages for nursing programs. She has also presented nationally on developing undergraduate courses centered on student emotional health and well-being. Currently, Dr. Ireland is leading a qualitative study exploring nursing retention and the impact of a holistic nursing education model.

Most recently, Dr. Ireland holds a significant national role as a member of the American Nurses Association (ANA) workgroup revising the 4th Edition of the ANA Scope and Standards, with publication of the 5th Edition expected in the summer of 2026.
