Vickie Ireland

Dr. Vickie A. Ireland joined the nursing faculty at UMA in January 2021 after more than 29 years (and 18 moves!) as an active-duty military spouse. She has held nursing licenses in 7 states across the country before settling in Maine last year. She is board-certified in emergency nursing, but also has experience in trauma, intensive care, pediatric, and school nursing. She began working as a nurse educator in 2011 and has been privileged to teach at the university, community college, and technical college setting. Dr. Ireland completed her dissertation in 2021 and conducted a basic qualitative study that focused on incorporating emotional intelligence educational strategies in the undergraduate nursing curriculum to promote civility and a healthy academic environment. Her research interests include emotional intelligence, civility, healthy academic environments, holistic nursing, and curriculum design and evaluation.
