MHHS Student Club Speaker Series: Commissioner Sauschuck

The UMA Mental Health and Human Services Student Club welcomes all UMA students, faculty, & staff to join us on Friday, October 24, from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. on Zoom for a conversation with Maine’s Commissioner of Public Safety, Commissioner Mike Sauschuck.

Commissioner Sauschuck oversees the Maine Public Safety Bureau to ensure the efficient delivery of the services those agencies provide. These bureaus include the Capitol Police, Consolidated Emergency Communications, Maine Criminal Justice Academy, Drug Enforcement, Emergency Medical Services, the Fire Marshal’s Office, Gambling Control, Highway Safety, and the Maine State Police. He has been working in law enforcement roles for 24 years.

We will be talking with him about the philosophical shift that has occurred in law enforcement regarding how to address substance use and misuse. We are moving from a punitive model focused on arrest, criminalization, and incarceration to a more recovery-focused, less punitive approach. We welcome you to join us for this conversation.
