What is TRIO Scholars?
TRIO Scholars is a federally funded Student Support Services program designed to help eligible students succeed at UMA. Our program serves 340 undergraduate students who are:
- First-generation (the first in their families to earn a bachelor’s degree)
- Income-eligible (using significant financial aid to attend)
- Students with disabilities (using accommodations to access learning
- and classrooms)
What TRIO Provides
TRIO Scholars amplifies and personalizes many of the services already available on campus, offering students targeted support such as:
- Academic advising & class registration support
- Textbook lending library and competitive grant aid
- Financial aid guidance (FAFSA, scholarships, and economic literacy)
- Tutoring and academic skill development
- Graduate school and career exploration
- Workshops, mentoring, and community-building opportunities
Faculty and staff play a critical role in connecting students to resources. Referring eligible students to TRIO Scholars helps them access the tools, guidance, and community they need to thrive and graduate.
