A new Flix and Greyhound bus stop is being added at our Augusta Campus. Located in front of the Randall Student Center, the stop will provide convenient, accessible travel options across the region for our students and serve as a broader transportation resource for the surrounding Augusta community. As the stop owner, our role is to provide the designated bus stop, not to operate a passenger depot or provide services such as ticket sales. Passengers are welcome to use the facilities in the Randall Student Center during normal operating hours, with the same expectations for respectful conduct that apply to all campus visitors.
Over a year ago, UMA partnered with Flix North America to establish an intercity bus stop for Flix and Greyhound on our UMA Bangor Campus, located in front of Eastport Hall. Building on that partnership, we are now expanding this option to our Augusta Campus. Buses travel between Bangor and South Station (Boston), with stops including UMaine Orono, UMA Bangor, UMA Augusta, Bates College, Lewiston, Brunswick, Portland, Wells, and Portsmouth (NH).
With the introduction of this new bus service, and as part of our continued commitment to campus safety, we have been working closely with Facilities and the UMaine Police Department (UMPD) to improve traffic flow and prioritize pedestrian safety around the Randall Student Center.
You will notice several updates in this area:
- Barricade Removal: We removed the old parking barricades and caution tape in front of the building. This will clear space for the new bus stop, create a more inviting entrance, and simplify winter snow removal.
- Road Configuration: New stop signs have been installed, and white lines have been painted on the road in front of Randall to help slow down traffic.
- Speed Bumps: Facilities will be installing new speed bumps in this area. These will be removable to allow for easier snow plowing during the winter months.
- Traffic Enforcement: As needed, Officer Skroski will actively monitor the area and, as appropriate, conduct traffic stops to ensure compliance with these new safety measures.
Safety remains our top priority. We will continually assess both the new traffic patterns and the bus stop operations to ensure they remain a positive addition to our campus, and we are prepared to make further adjustments if necessary.
