What is the Neuro-Inclusive Course Design Community of Practice?
UMA’s Neuro-Inclusive Course Design Community of Practice (CoP) is a ten-week collaborative experience beginning September 14, 2026.
Faculty will work alongside learning experience designers and peers to explore neuro-inclusive teaching practices and make practical, meaningful updates to courses to better support UMA’s diverse learners. Through readings, discussions, and application activities, participants will
- Better understand how neurodivergent and non-traditional learners engage with higher education
- Explore current research on executive function, neuroplasticity, and learner variability
- Develop practical design and assessment strategies aligned with Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
- Create clearer, more consistent course structures that support student success
- Identify inclusive tools and approaches that support engagement and persistence
Intended Audience
This CoP is intended for faculty looking to improve their current course offerings with neurodiversity in mind.
