Call for Proposals: Annual Student Research Conference

Proposals are due by April 1, 2026. Late proposals can not be considered.

The UMA Student Research Conference is an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, and community members to come together to share our work across disciplines and programs and to learn more about a variety of topics, including this year’s academic theme, Civil Rights.

The conference is an opportunity for students to present their research work in a variety of subjects and formats. These presentations (as well as other opportunities for collaboration and learning) will take place in real time on Friday, April 24th, via Zoom and in-person at UMA’s campuses and Centers.

Everyone is welcome to attend this conference. Students can invite friends and family, and professors are encouraged to mentor students and to attend this conference in support of our students. Online registration is required; there is no cost to attend the conference. Let’s build on tradition and create a new one in the spirit of collaboration and life-long learning!

What you need to know

Students may choose to submit a proposal in one of many formats (see the event website for more information). Some of these formats involve only an individual submission. Others require collaboration and pre-planning. Students are encouraged to seek guidance from faculty members and/or staff for feedback prior to submitting a proposal.

Proposals are due by April 1, 2026.
Late proposals can not be considered.

Proposals will need a title, a format, and an abstract/description. The title and description provided are what will appear in the conference program. Students will also be asked about their real-time availability on Friday, April 24th, when the synchronous (real-time) presentations will take place.

The following submission types will be considered:

  • paper/research to be presented in real time (reading, PowerPoint, etc.);
  • collaborative panel or workshop (conducted in real time);
  • artistic performance in real time (music, poetry, etc.);
  • electronic posters (presented in real time);
  • physical posters (to be displayed in the library on April 24);
  • work in progress (presented in real time)

Proposals for asynchronous (pre-recorded) presentations will also be considered for students who cannot attend/present in real-time, although synchronous participation is encouraged as much as possible.
