Hiring released prisoners helps meet state’s workforce needs

Prison officials, community leaders met at UMA Rockland to talk about connecting workers from justice system with employers.

Staff from the Maine Department of Corrections, Rockland Main Street, and the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce presented information to employers about working with the currently incarcerated population, including the work release program and job training programs inside correctional facilities. An overview of how probation works, and information on tax credit incentives for businesses that work with this population was also part of the event.
