UMA has launched the Office of Academic Success and Intercultural Services, or OASIS, bringing together academic support services and the university’s growing intercultural services initiative within the Student Development/Dean of Students division.
OASIS builds on the work previously provided through the Office of Academic Success while expanding support designed to help students connect, succeed, and feel supported throughout their UMA experience.
Services provided through OASIS include:
- Tutoring and academic success coaching
- Support for multilingual learners and students from a wide range of academic backgrounds
- Connections to campus and community resources
- Intercultural programming and student engagement
- Community-building opportunities
As outlined in UMA’s Strategic Plan, OASIS will also support the university’s continued efforts to expand global inclusion and international services as resources allow.
OASIS Staffing Updates
Dr. Tasia Lima, Associate Dean of Students and Title IX Coordinator, is serving as Interim Director of OASIS while UMA conducts a search for a permanent director.
Scott Swisher has been promoted to Assistant Director of Academic and English Learner Support, bringing significant experience and expertise to this expanded role.
Quinn Vinal has also joined the OASIS team as Intercultural Student Engagement Liaison. In this new role, Quinn will work directly with students, faculty, and staff to support intercultural engagement and programming across the university.
Abdur Rehman Tariq has joined UMA as the Postdoctoral Scholar for Transforming Lives, bringing a strong background in literacy education and experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
