The fall semester is here!
Across our campuses in Augusta and Bangor, at Centers throughout Maine, and online, UMA community members, new and returning, are settling into a new semester. Whether you’re opening a textbook for the first time, refining a syllabus, or making sure every detail is in place behind the scenes, you’re part of our community, and we’re glad you’re here.
This year, our shared work continues to center on access, belonging, and student success. As we launch into this year’s Academic Theme, we invite our whole community, students and employees alike, to carry it into the semester ahead.
A few reminders as we get started:
For Students
- Meet with a Student Services Coordinator for academic advising and course planning
- Take advantage of free tutoring and academic coaching
- Connect with accessibility services for accommodations and support
- Reach counseling and wellbeing resources whenever you need them
For Faculty and Staff
- Partner with the Faculty Development Center for teaching support, course design, and help with Brightspace and other classroom technology
- Work with External Relations for communications, marketing, event, and promotion support (now home to UMA’s communications, marketing, events, alumni engagement, and advancement teams)
For Everyone
- Your MyUMA portal is your single sign-on doorway to Brightspace, email, and MaineStreet, and the Tech Hub is there when you need support
- Join President Cushman for Town Halls and Java with Jen conversations throughout the year
- Browse UMA events calendar for what’s happening across the university, with many online options
- Get involved at the UMA Center nearest you
- Explore ongoing Student Life activities open to the whole community
- Get involved with a club or organization that matches your interests
Staying Connected This Semester
UMA’s news reaches you in a few different ways. Here’s how to keep up all semester long.
Start with The Lookout. It’s UMA’s hub for everything current, from news and events to student and employee announcements, statewide highlights, and program news, all searchable and organized by tab. If you bookmark one thing this semester, make it this.
Students, watch for the Moosenger. Your weekly student newsletter lands in your @maine.edu inbox every Monday with the latest student announcements, events, and activities, plus a reminder of what’s worth catching on The Lookout. You’re already subscribed, so just keep an eye on your inbox. You can manage your preferences at the bottom of any issue.
Employees, watch for the Snapshot. Your weekly employee newsletter arrives in your @maine.edu inbox every Tuesday with the latest employee news, events, and faculty and staff highlights, plus a reminder of what’s happening on The Lookout. You’re already subscribed. Manage your preferences anytime at the bottom of any issue.
Get the big picture from the Monthly Moose News. Once a month, the MMN steps back to tell UMA’s larger story of strategy, milestones, and the people behind them. Anyone can subscribe to the Monthly Moose News, on or off campus.
