Affordable dental services are something to smile about!

Dental Hygiene Clinic is Open!

We have been thinking about you and hope that you are safe and healthy. Our world has been through a lot and many of us are ready to get back to our normal routines. As we welcome you back to our dental hygiene clinic, we want to reassure you that your well-being and comfort are our number one priority.

Please call (207) 262-7872 to schedule an appointment with one of our dental hygiene students. Please note, the dental clinic is closed over spring (one week in mid-March), summer (mid-May to mid-August), and winter breaks (mid-December to mid-January).

We follow the most recent recommendations from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and have made many changes to keep our patients, staff, and students safe.

COVID-19 Protocol

  • We ask that patients call or text the office from their vehicle once they arrive in the parking lot.
  • We ask patients to come to the front entrance, where we will greet the patient.
  • We ask patients to use hand sanitizer that is provided to everyone entering the building.
  • The patient will be asked to read the Dental Health Programs screening document before entering the reception/clinical area and can be provided a Level 1 mask if a patient requests one.
  • Masks for patients are not required for building entry, in the reception area or in the clinic.
  • Our clinical staff and students will be wearing masks.

We are happy to answer any questions you may have about the steps we are taking to keep you safe when visiting our clinic. Please call our clinic at (207) 262-7872 if you have any questions or would like to make an appointment. Please note, our Dental Hygiene Clinic follows the academic calendar and we schedule appointments and see patients from mid-August to mid-December, and mid-January through April.

Thank you for your understanding and for your support of the UMA Dental Hygiene Program. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Failed Appointments

Failed appointments will be documented in the patient’s record.

Failing more than one appointment will disallow a patient from making another. In this instance, those patients will be placed on a short-notice cancellation list.

If the patient subsequently attends two consecutive scheduled appointments without failing, normal scheduling procedures will be permitted.

Canceled Appointments

Short-notice cancellations will be documented in the patient’s chart.  If a patient cancels two appointments within a short time span, this will disallow a patient from making another.  In this instance, those patients will be placed on a short-notice cancellation list.

If the patient subsequently attends two consecutive appointments without canceling, normal scheduling procedures will then be permitted.

Please be advised that the Dental Clinic may be canceled or delayed due to inclement weather.

Notification will be posted both on our website (www.uma.edu) and phone voicemail (207-262-7872).

PLEASE ALWAYS CHECK THE WEB OR PHONE MESSAGE PRIOR TO COMING TO YOUR APPOINTMENT IF THERE IS A CHANCE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER.

Give Kids A Smile®

"Give Kids a Smile!" Logo

The American Dental Association reports that over 300,000 children are provided with free oral health education, screenings, preventive and restorative treatment annually through Give Kids a Smile® Programs.

In 2023, the UMA Bangor Dental Health Program’s event provided free dental services to approximately 55 children. All children were seen by a Maine licensed dentist for an exam and our UMA students provided all the other preventive dental services including prophylaxis cleanings, 45 sets of X-Rays, 6 sealants and 46 fluoride treatments.

Our next Give Kids a Smile® event will take place in February 2025. We will begin scheduling appointments in January. Don’t miss it!
