UMA Housing at Stevens Commons
Beginning in the fall of 2019, UMA began to offer affordable housing to full-time students attending the Augusta campus. Located in Hallowell, just over the Augusta city line, the historic Stevens Commons is a renovated and preserved mixed-use campus, set high on a hill facing the Kennebec River.
Eighty-plus beds will be available in furnished rooms, with additional amenities on-site for residential students such as a mail service, lounge, laundry, cafe, and a fitness center. This modern and affordable housing is located within a short 10-minute drive of UMA’s Augusta campus, and within walking distance of local retailers and restaurants.
The newly renovated student apartments feature open layouts with sun-filled rooms, private bedrooms, and kitchen, dining, and bath spaces. One-, two-, and three-bedroom suites will be available.
Who can Apply for UMA Housing
There are a few basic requirements that must be met in order for students to be selected to move in to and reside during the transitions into a new semester. Applicants must:
- be a matriculated (enrolled) student in an UMA academic degree program.
- be enrolled as a full-time student (defined as taking a minimum of 12 academic credits per semester in both the fall and spring semesters, and a minimum of 3 academic credits in each summer term of residence) in any academic program and making satisfactory progress toward a degree. Students carrying less than 12 credits per semester or less than 3 credits during a summer term may appeal to live in UMA Stevens Commons Housing.
- maintain a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0. Students who fall below the 2.0 cumulative GPA may appeal to live in UMA Housing at Stevens Commons. This appeal must be in writing and needs to contain a plan for future academic success.
- ensure there are no academic, financial or heath requirement holds on their accounts. In the case of a financial hold, students must work with Student Financial Services to complete payment or make an appropriate payment plan.
Please note: submitting the UMA Housing application does not guarantee assignment. UMA Housing at Stevens Commons has a limited number of beds available. Selection for UMA Housing will be made with a lottery system based on ranked variables and Community Suites. More details can be found on the UMA Housing Application page.
