UMA accepts college credit for successful completion of a variety of CLEP, DSST, Challenge, and AP exams.  We are also an open test center for CLEP and DANTES.  To discuss your options, contact the following individual:

College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

UMA participates in CLEP for college credit.  Students in UMA degree programs may earn a maximum of 45 credits through CLEP.

UMA is also an open test center.  This means that anyone who wishes to take CLEP exams at UMA may do so and the results can be sent to any CLEP participating institution.

Eric will be able to provide registration forms and details for the registration process.  *NOTE: UMA requires a $30 service fee to register for the CLEP exam.

  • Prior to testing, please contact the college/university that you’ll be sending your score report to (for credit) so that you’ll know the required passing score.
  • Your first choice date will usually be available, but if not, the test administrator will call to reschedule.  After the exam has been scheduled, it is the student’s responsibility to cancel or reschedule.  Please arrive for the testing on time; late candidates will not be permitted to take the exam.
  • If you are taking an exam with a required essay (excluding College Composition), there is a $10 essay fee.  The fee will only be charged if the examinee passes the multiple choice section of the exam.  The essay will count as another test session, however will not be charged an additional service fee.

*Registration deadlines for Augusta testing is 2 weeks prior to the exam date.

REMEMBER:

On exam day, be prepared to bring the following to the test center:

  • A valid registration ticked from My Account registration portal.
  • Registration forms or printouts that are required by the test center.  Make sure you have filled out all necessary paperwork in advance of your testing date.
  • Your driver’s license, passport or other government-issued identification that includes your photograph and signature can be used as ID.  You will be asked to show this identification to be admitted to the testing area.  The last name on your ID must match the name on your registration ticket.
  • Military test-takers, bring your military ID and social security card.
  • Home-schoolers, if you do not have the required government-issued ID, please complete a  Student ID Form, which is valid for one year.  The form must be accompanied by a recognizable photo, with a school or notary seal overlapping the photo.  The form must be signed in front of a school official or notary.  If you fail to present appropriate ID, you will not be tested.
  • Arrive on time! As these exams are timed, late arrivals will not be permitted to take the exam.

The College Board now requires students to purchase the CLEP exam on their site at http://clep.collegeboard.org/register/exam. The examinee will need to create an account, then purchase the exam with a credit/debit card payment. A voucher number will be created to give to the site where you are registering to take the CLEP test.

Dantes (Defense Activity for Non-Traditional education Support) Subject Standardized Tests (DSST)

UMA is an open test center for anyone who wishes to take the DANTES examinations. Payment waivers for Military personnel do not apply to the written DANTES exam.

DANTES exams are administered at UMA’s Augusta Campus.

Note: UMA does not administer the DANTES Public Speaking exam.

DANTES exams are set up by appointment through UMA Enrollment Services Division, 207-621-3392, or email at eric.allain@maine.edu.  The test center code is#8612.

The following are required for the DANTES registration:

  • a non-refundable service fee payable to UMA for $30 per exam, due upon registration.
  • a MONEY ORDER payable to Prometric for $80 per exam (can be paid on the test day).
  • a request for a map if you need directions to the testing location (if needed).

NOTE: UMA Challenge Exams are only recognized by The University of Maine at Augusta. Credits cannot be transferred to other institutions.

UMA currently accepts the following National League for Nursing (NLN) Test for students matriculated in the RN-BSN completion program:

  • Normal Nutrition (meets UMA’s RN-BSN BIO 104 requirement)
  • Physical Assessment (meets UMA’s RN-BSN NUR 301 requirement)
  • Pharmacology in Clinical Nursing (meets UMS’s RN-BSN NUR 302 requirement)

Study Resources:

Utilizing the R2 Digital Libraries, UMA students have electronic access to the following text books to help study for these three exams.  (Students will be prompted to login with your @maine.edu credentials if you are off campus.)

 

Scoring: the test is scored between 0 and 100, and requires a score of 76 or higher to receive credit.

Cost: $30 payable to UMA + $23 payable online via credit card to NLN on the day of the exam.
