Eid Community Potluck
Eid Community Potluck
April 5, 2025 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Fireside Lounge, Randall Student Center, 46 University Dr, Augusta, ME 04330, USA
You are invited to the Third Annual Eid Community Potluck!
Local multicultural organizations and the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) will partner to host a third annual community potluck for Eid al-Fitr on Saturday, April 5th from 1-3pm. This will be an opportunity for all members of our local community to come together, share about traditions in Maine, and promote hope for a new generation. Capital Area New Mainers Project will collect funds for their baby fund, which provides kits for families welcoming a new baby.
Eid, meaning ‘celebration’ or ‘festival’, refers to a time of joyous celebration. There are two dedicated times of Eid in Islam that Muslims around the globe celebrate. Eid al-Fitr, translated as “the festival of breaking the fast”, marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. This festival is a particularly significant time for Muslims to get together, appreciate their blessings, share special treats and delicacies, and celebrate with the community.
The potluck will be in the Fireside Lounge, in the Randall Student Center. All are welcome to join, and attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share.* The event is free and open to the public.
*No pork please. If you kindly provide a list of ingredients in your dish, that would also be appreciated.
For more information, contact Kristin McLaren at kristin.mclaren@maine.edu.

April is Autism Awareness Month, an international event established to increase understanding and acceptance of individuals with autism. Autism Awareness Month was founded in April 1970 by Bernard Rimland, Ph.D., a psychologist and autism researcher. He chose the month of April to coincide with his son's birthday, as well as the start of spring—a time for new beginnings. In April 1988, President Ronald Reagan issued the first presidential proclamation declaring April as National Autism Awareness Month. This was significant progress and began a new era of awareness, which opened opportunities for people with autism to live fuller and more productive lives.
